We need to exclude AIDS, not people living with HIV!

My name is Daniel-Claude. I am 49 years old and live in Montreal. I’m a left-handed, colour-blind, gay and HIV-positive artist. If I introduce myself in this way, it’s because I find that it illustrates the fact that I am constantly confronting challenges(…) During adolescence, I fought for equality between men and women. As a young adult, I militated against increases in school fees, for the environment, the rights of the LGBT community. I do volunteering and I’ve been working for 15 years in the HIV community (…)

I’ve already had my position cut to make me shut my trap. That was a difficult chapter in my life. I felt so useless that I fell ill and almost passed away. When I came out of hospital, I told myself: wow, that’s enough! You’re going to stop it immediately (…) There and then, I began volunteering and becoming involved again(…) I went to meet people in Régina, in Vancouver, in Toronto; then, at the end of that road full of extraordinary meetings, I found a job at COCQ-SIDA(…)

On the threshold of my 50th birthday, I realise that I still have the capacity to bounce back and, especially, the strength to fight so that everyone can enjoy the right to respect
